I’ve been fascinated by the movie character Mystique from the X-Men films ever since I learned, waaaaay back when, that (1) the character would be played by Rebecca Romijn, and (2) she would be basically naked, save for some prosthetics and blue paint. The makeup process was long and arduous, so much so that Romijn’s successor Jennifer Lawrence insisted that the process be streamlined or else she would not return to the role. Lawrence got her way and in her last couple of turns in the role the prosthetics were largely replaced with a bodysuit.
