Get Over Yourself

Out of all the phrases I see recklessly bandied about on the socials, one that has always puzzled me was, “Get Over Yourself.”

What does it even mean? And no one I’ve asked has been able to provide a useful explanation. In terms of context, when someone tells you to get over yourself they’re usually criticizing your point of view through the use of weasel words. They disagree with you and also think you’re wrong. But rather than say that, they come at you with a phrase like “get over yourself,” not only condemns your perspective on the current topic, but also on everything else.

I will not be getting over myself, thank you. Though I will certainly listen to new information and adjust my perspective accordingly.
