Today’s Question of the Day:
This one’s pretty basic. Who is a band or artist that didn’t make the best first impression on you, but you eventually learned to appreciate? I’ve got a very long list of those myself. I tend to make snap judgments when I hear a song for the first time, and sometimes those impressions can be persistent, whether I like it or not. But sometimes I hear something from them later which is enough to overcome that first impression and I wind up appreciating what they do more and more. One dismaying thing as that as I get older it becomes more and more difficult to keep an open mind about new music… one thing I don’t want to be is that old curmudgeon who can’t listen to anything made after he was in his 20s. We all know someone like that, don’t we? So try to keep your mind and your ears open, that’s my advice, because sometimes something unexpected can grab you in the best way, and wind up becoming a lifelong favorite.
