In Honor of the Choco Taco

Today’s Question of the Day:

Klondike announced that the Choco Taco is no more. The summertime ice-cream staple has provided relief from the summer heat since the mid-80s. For the unfamiliar, the Choco Taco is pretty much what the name implies: it’s a variation on the humble sundae cone in the shape of a taco. I’ve had a couple of them over the years but I’ve never been a devotee, so the announcement didn’t faze me too much. Amusingly I’m seeing a massive outcry on the socials, which makes me wonder how many of them actually loved Choco Tacos and how many of them are just nostalgic. Typically when a product is discontinued, particularly after almost 40 years, it is due to low sales. So I have a feeling that a lot of these people boo-hooing the demise of the Choco Taco haven’t actually eaten one since they were kids themselves.

Nevertheless the announcement reminded me of a whole slew of discontinued products that I for one still mourn. Some of these, like Surge soda, have made a comeback, at least in the short term. But have you ever heard of Dooley’s?

They were like a potato chip version of combos. A little potato cylinder, but with dip inside. They were magnificent… and gone all too soon. Then there was 7up Gold. This one is a real sore spot for me:

I still maintain this was the best tasting soda ever. It lasted less than a year when I was 14. I think I drank most of it personally.

So how about you? What discontinued product do you still miss?
