Nasty’s Nugget of Spelling

blog

Talking can be heard, especially for me and spelling even tougher! Google Trends posted some new data on the top words that each state is Googling how to spell.  Here are some interesting ones.  Some states had searches that are understandable.   The #1 search in Utah is “boutonniere”, for Mississippi (which is hard enough to spell, but wait till we get to West Virginia!) is “independent”, in D.C. (which is not a state lol)  is “bearable”, in New Mexico is “bologna” (which do you pronounce the g?), and in Tennessee is “pneumonia” (ahh that silent p will get ya). Other states were also tripped up by words that sound similar or even the same.  The #1 search in Missouri is for “dessert” and in both Vermont and Louisiana had a hard time with “gray”.  These words should have been figured out by now:  in Oklahoma – “business”, in Wyoming – “autumn”,  in Illinois – “anniversary”, in Alabama – “exercise” and in both Montana and Nebraska – “beautiful.”

But come on,  North Dakota is “sorry,”  Georgia – “little”, South Carolina – “college” and  in Alaska it’s “cheese”?

Are your ready for our quad state area…in Virginia it’s “prank”, in Maryland it’s “federation”, in Pennsylvania it’s “reimbursement”, and West Virginia…is WEST VIRGINIA!! No lie!
