I came in first in this year’s Hoops Hysteria. Or rather, first here in the building. Actually, I tied in points with our promotions director, Brittani. But I took the tiebreaker because I had more correct picks. The prize is a Sheetz gift card. The regional winner got a TV. But I’m not complaining. I rarely win stuff, and that Sheetz gift card will come in very handy for my early-morning protein bar and energy drink stops. Sheetz really does have a pretty good selection of protein bars, especially the Quest and Barebell ones that I really like. So I’m taking a brief moment to gloat, and then I will move on. I picked North Carolina to win, which surprised me. I’d forgotten that I had done that. I filled out a few other brackets, like the ESPN one and the CBS Sports one and made no effort to keep them consistent, so they’re all different. But the Hoops Hysteria one I really just blasted through in about five minutes. I didn’t spare it too much thought. Maybe I should do that with all of these kinds of things. By contrast the NASCAR pick em Challenge a couple years back I absolutely killed myself over. I took an hour to fill it out, then I changed it and changed it and changed it again. I didn’t place first in a single race all season. In fact, Nitty Gritty finished better overall and she didn’t even register until after the first race! So to win the Hoops Hysteria, even if only among the employees here is nice, just one little victory.
