Snowbows?

Lately, we have been having some weird weather. It is supposed to be officially Spring, but it seems like Mother Nature is going through menopause and threw on the air conditioner.  Yesterday, we were having some weather alerts for squall warnings and as this was to happen, the sun was shining. One of my coworkers, The Killerpatrick, asked “will we see a rainbow?” Good question…so that created my nugget for today.

I found out that there is actually a thing called snowbows which is a rare phenomenon. It will form when the sunlight reflects and refracted by ice crystals in the air. They are faint because the ice crystal don’t reflect as raindrops would in the air. If you have a snowblower, you can create one on a cold day, when the sun is low in the sky and then aim the discharge plume vertically.

The more you know…
