I used to wonder why people who I thought weren’t “Rock N Roll” were always inducted while actual Rock N Roll Bands who deserved to be weren’t.
I think it stems from the phrase “Rock N Roll” which was coined.  The term coined by Cleveland DJ Alan Freed was at the time of Elvis, The Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly.
Essentially, it was Top 40.  So, as time went on, Rock N Roll fractured into a bunch of different genres.  It went to Pop, Soul, and Rock… But I think the “spirit” of Rock and Roll remained.  But this is just my opinion… I have nothing to back it up!  That being said, I’d like to see Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie join Judas Priest in singing “Living After Midnight”!
